Jin, The issue is not one of your particular laptop, but rather one of your particular modem chipset. There are several members on this List online through modems under Karmic or other 2.6.31 kernels. The situation closest to yours is a modem activated with: $ sudo slmodem -c GREECE --alsa modem:1 The hardware is in the older AMR modem class as contrasted to your modem chipset hosted on a HDA card. If you can afford to buy an external modem, most likely you will to be able to get online with it. Read Info.General.txt about details.
