Congratulations,

It is good to know of a successful usage of slmodemd under 2.6.31, and
particularly in Greece where Jin is having problems too.

Though your systems are different in that you are using the
snd-intel8x0m driver for your hardware, while Jin's modem chip is
hosted on a HD Audio card and uses the snd-hda-intel combined
audio+modem driver.

No there is no effect of having additional kernels on board, except
for their storage space.
During any single bootup, a single kernel plus its own modules are
sole in control.

I'll send you instructions later on who to display the 2.6.28 kernel choices.
