Antonio,

Thank you for your response.

I think (based on what scanModem said) the chipset of my modem is Conexant
chipset and the modem is hosted on High Definition Audio card. Am I right?

I had bought this Dell notebook with factory Ubuntu installation and then
re-installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 (newer version) from applied DVD (to re-build HDD
partitions). Unfortunately, I have not burnt Dell DVD rescue disc from
factory installation. Now I cannot get on to Internet from this notebook.
(The seller's guarantee service cannot help: first, they sent me driver
xxx.exe for Windows, and after my explanations it did not fit they sent
sl-modem-daemon package which did not help, too; all that drove me to
linmodems.org.) Looking for acceptable decision I have found out the
following.

Conexant.txt says:
Dell is providing hsfmodem package for its PCs:
http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/modem-drivers/ .
with the folder http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/modem-drivers/hsf-custom/
having the version 7.68 needed for your ALSA version 1.0.4
 hsfmodem-7.68.00.06tst1oem-1.i386.rpm 18-Jan-2008 16:24 1.4M
 hsfmodem-7.68.00.06tst1oem.tar.gz 18-Jan-2008 16:24 1.4M
 hsfmodem_7.68.00.06tst1oem-1_i386.deb 18-Jan-2008 16:24 1.3M

But ModemData.txt says:
The ALSA verion is 1.0.16

And the folder
http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/modem-drivers/hsf-custom/
does not exist but there is the folder
http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/hardy/modem-drivers/hsf/

And there is not the package
hsfmodem_7.68.00.06tst1oem-1_i386.deb
there but there is the package
hsfmodem_7.68.00.09oem_i386.deb
I have tried the last but sound has broken :-( and I re-install Ubuntu.

Conexant.txt also says:
Jonathan <modem.support@xxxxxxxxxxxx> provides support for Conexant chipset
modems.

But I continue to address myself to you trying to sort out my case; if that is
against any rules I beg your pardon.

Aleck
