For the record. NO DIALTONE modem returned after dialing with a 537
family Intel modem.

Dear Ryan,

What are the latest news from your dad ? Is he completely confident in a
quick recover ? Is he already in a hurry to quit the hospital and go
back home ?

Concerning your sound problems:
$ cd intel-536-537/
$ gedit 537_boot
Make sure you read "sound_enabled=1"
if sound_enabled=0, change it to 1.
Then:
$ sudo make install
$ sudo make install
$ sudo /etc/init.d/537_boot status
you should then read usrsound as running.
and you'll probably be able to ear troubleshoot the NO DIALTONE message.

Also I notice you set your modem as "+FCLASS=0". As far as I remember
this ought to be reserved for Class 1 modems such as the 536EP. Your 537
modem is a Class 2 modem. So you should set "+FCLASS=" differently. This
is very likely to be the root cause of the NO DIALTONE. My belief is
that you should set "+FCLASS=" to "+FCLASS=2".

Waiting to hear from you, I do hope this time with a mail of yours from
Linux.
