It is strange, but I did post something there.  Actually what I posted
was the following:

get the SLMODEMD.gcc4.3-alsa-1.0.18.tar.gz from linmodems page.  Then
run ./setup and replace the other slmodemd's that exist on your
machine.  Run it and try to connect with it and if there are error
messages like in the previous one, please attach them to this mail and
forward to list and to the persons here addressed.  Something might be
interfering, but it is hard to determine at this time.
