Philipp, If Windows has your modem installed on COM3, and VMWare is copying that over (which sounds like what that option is for), then you won't need drivers for it in Linux - it will appear to Linux as an old external serial modem on /dev/ttyS2 (the Linux equivalent of COM3). scanModem unfortunately is unable to find such older interfaces: "If your modem is connected by an external serial cable, or mounted internally on an ISA card, scanModem would not access it."
