Chris, The modem driver is the snd-via82xx-modem already on your System. Likely it won't make a difference, but you can now use the SLMODEMD_gcc4.3_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz rather than SLMODEMD_gcc4.2_alsa1.0.17.tar.gz, as we fixed the problem requring the 4.2 Setup the modem with: $ sudo slmodemd -c FRANCE --alsa modem:1 leave it running during a modem session. This driver sometimes dies while loaded. The restore is Ctrl-C to stop slmodemd. Unload and reload the driver: $ sudo modprobe -r snd-via82xx-modem $ sudo modprobe snd-via82xx-modem and reactivate: $ sudo slmodemd -c FRANCE --alsa modem:1 Read DOCs/Smartlink.txt, DOCs/wvdial.txt and Modem/DOCs/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.
