Daniel, Before you try to dialout can you do the following: $ sudo modprobe -r snd-hda-intel $ sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel $ sudo slmodemd -c CANADA --alsa hw:0,6 Leave that running as it should say that slmodemd is running CTRL+C to quit, fire up another terminal then modify your /etc/wvdial.conf $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf Change Init2 from what you have [Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0] to Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 X3 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +MS=90 add a line Stupid Mode = yes [Dialer Defaults] Init1 = ATZ Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 X3 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +MS=90 Modem Type = Analog Modem ISDN = 0 Phone = a_phone_number New PPPD = yes Modem = /dev/ttySL0 Username = my_username Password = my_password Baud = 460800 Carrier Check=no Stupid Mode = yes Report back. When redialing press CTRL+C on the running slmodemd and do the $ sudo slmodemd -c CANADA --alsa hw:0,6 Regards, Antonio On Sat, May 16, 2009 at 8:21 PM, Daniel Miguel <danielmp84@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Hi > > When i reboot i did the following: > > daniel@daniel-laptop:~$ sudo su > [sudo] password for daniel: > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# ls -l /dev/ttySL0 /dev/pt > ptmx pts/ > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# ls -l /dev/ttySL0 /dev/pts/* > crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 136, 0 2009-05-16 16:45 /dev/pts/0 > crw--w---- 1 daniel tty 136, 1 2009-05-16 16:47 /dev/pts/1 > lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2009-05-16 16:45 /dev/ttySL0 -> /dev/pts/0 > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# slmodemd -c CANADA --alsa hw:0,6 > error: alsa setup: cannot open playback device 'hw:0,6': Device or resource busy > error: cannot setup device `hw:0,6' > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# wvdialconf > Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf'. > > Scanning your serial ports for a modem. > > Modem Port Scan<*1>: S0 S1 S2 S3 > WvModem<*1>: Cannot get information for serial port. > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 Z -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- SmartLink Soft Modem > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 4800: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 9600: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 19200: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 38400: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 57600: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 115200: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 230400: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Speed 460800: AT -- OK > ttySL0<*1>: Max speed is 460800; that should be safe. > ttySL0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 -- OK > > Found a modem on /dev/ttySL0. > Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf. > ttySL0<Info>: Speed 460800; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0" > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# nano /etc/wvdial.conf > > ---------------------------/etc/wvdial.conf------------------------- > [Dialer Defaults] > Init1 = ATZ > Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > Modem Type = Analog Modem > ISDN = 0 > Phone = a_phone_number > New PPPD = yes > Modem = /dev/ttySL0 > Username = my_username > Password = my_password > Baud = 460800 > Carrier Check=no > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > root@daniel-laptop:/home/daniel# wvdial > --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 > --> Cannot get information for serial port. > --> Initializing modem. > --> Sending: ATZ > ATZ > OK > --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 > OK > --> Modem initialized. > --> Sending: ATDT8314040 > --> Waiting for carrier. > ATDT8314040 > --> Timed out while dialing.
