Could you then please send me the file which you cannot unpack and the command (perhaps several) which you have tried to use?

Can you please tell us the FULL http address of the file which you have downloaded?

Have you downloaded directly to Linux or via Windows?

If via Windows, how did you transfer the file to Linux?

You MUST have done something wrong. Please HELP US trying to find what by giving complete and accurrate replies to our questions!

On my laptop, which is NOT the linmodems.technion.ac.il server, here is what I have just done(3 commands, wget , ls -l, tar zxvf):

[localhost] /home/goldberg > wget http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz --16:16:15-- http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz
          => `slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz'

Please give the complete URL (http:/... ) where you got the file

slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz which gives you a problem.

Furthermore: in your first post to this list
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-nineth/msg00993.html
you wrote:
According to this I searched for slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz, But
cannot get only get slamr-2.6.24-7-generic.tar.gz. I unpack
(slamr-2.6.24-7-generic.tar.gz) with
tar zxvf slamr*.tar.gz
but I got an error message like this
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
child returns status.
Error exit delayed from previous errors.

There you say you could not find 2.6.27.7 , only 2.6.24.7 , but today you
cannot depack 2.5.27.7 .

Are you using the same URL fo find both?

On the linmodems.technion.ac.il Web server there only is 2.6.27.7, not
2.6.24.7:
[phep2] /home/goldberg > find $L -name slamr-2.6.2*-7-generic.tar.gz
/var/www/html/linmodems/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz

That one gets depacked without any problem.

This brings me to guess that you have downloaded your slamr* file from some
unreliable place rather than, as instructed several times, from
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu

I furthermore suspect that you did something weird just before giving your
command tar zxvf etc... , but it is not worth spending time on that if you
agree to do EXACTLY and ONLY what ModemData.txt tells you to do.

Jacques
