This brings me to guess that you have downloaded your slamr* file from some unreliable place rather than, as instructed several times, from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu I furthermore suspect that you did something weird just before giving your command tar zxvf etc... , but it is not worth spending time on that if you agree to do EXACTLY and ONLY what ModemData.txt tells you to do.
