At http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/
there is a  slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz
That is what you need.
Do not change the kernel, until you do the upgrade to the Jaunty release

When you upgrade to Juanty, the support route will change.
You will want to install packages dkms and sl-modem-source.
This will provide for dkms automated compiling of new slamr drivers,
to match future kernel upgrades.
