Yes, the slamr driver is needed.

Predictive diagnostics for card in bus fake:
	Modem chipset  detected on
NAME="FakeName"
CLASS=FakeClass
PCIDEV=2003:8800
SUBSYS=1801:2800
IRQ=fake
IDENT=slamr

 For candidate modem in:  fake
   FakeClass FakeName
      Primary device ID:  2003:8800
 Support type needed or chipset:	slamr

The modem is supported by the Smartlink
plus the slmodemd helper utility. Read the
DOCs/Smartlink.txt and Modem/DOCs/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.

He needs to download:
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/slmodem-2.9.11-20080817.tar.gz
and
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ungrab-winmodem-20080126.tar.gz

Everything appears to be there:
 Minimal compiling resources appear complete:
   make utility - /usr/bin/make
   Compiler version 4.2
   linuc_headers base folder /lib/modules/2.6.23-parsix-16/build

after downloading and copying to linux partition extract both files with
$ tar -zxvf slmodem-2.9.11-20080817.tar.gz
$ cd slmodem-2.9.11-20080817/
$ make KERNEL_VER=/lib/modules/2.6.23-parsix-16/build
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ cd ..
$ tar -zxvf ungrab-winmodem-20080126.tar.gz
$ cd ungrab-winmodem-20080126/
$ sudo make
$ sudo make install

$ sudo modprobe ungrab-winmodem
$ sudo modprobe slamr
$ sudo mknod /dev/slamr0  c 240 0
$ sudo slmodemd -c USA /dev/slamr0

Report back if you have questions.

Regards,

Antonio
