Everson, scanModem recommends slamr driver. Support type needed or chipset: slamr Writing DOCs/Intel.txt 134d:2189 is a PCTel HSP56 MicroModem 688T modem with the Oasis chipset. Under 2.6.n kernels, it is only supported through the Smartlink slamr.ko driver. The modem is supported by the Smartlink slamr plus the slmodemd helper utility. Read the DOCs/Smartlink.txt and Modem/DOCs/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance. For your kernel 2.6.24-21-generic there exists a prepackaged slamr Download the following: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr-2.6.24-21-generic.tar.gz extract it with $ tar -zxvf slamr-2.6.24-21-generic.tar.gz run the file $ sudo ./setup and it should setup the modem for you. After you have done this, run $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf and it should find your modem at /dev/ttySL0. Report back if you have trouble.
