You must NEVER place ANYTHING in the "/dev folder" because /dev is NOT a folder.

You should run scanModem in the folder where you login (the place you are in when Ubuntu starts).
You should leave the Modem folder where scanModem has created it.

You should open the Web page http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/
On the left there are menus, one of them is labelled HSF
Read the link Installation
You will have to use Method B. CAREFULLY read Method B and DO EXACTLY and ONLY what is says.

Once you have understood what you have to do, open the Web page
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads-ubuntu-x86.php
Find the line labelled 2.6.24-19-generic
Download the file hsfmodem_7.80.02.01full_k2.6.24_19_generic_ubuntu_i386.deb.zip
to the folder where Ubuntu starts
And now do EXACTLY what the installations instructions say.

The system management utility has a tool to start the modem and create a connection.

PLEASE, DO NOT DO THINGS FOLLOWING YOUR IMAGINATION, just follow the written instructions,

Jacques

folder into the /dev folder in file system. and now i don't know how
to proceed further. i have attached the file ModemData.txt. Please
give me guidance on how to proceed to establish the dialup connection
in linux. Waiting for your reply. Thank you
