Through http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic
you can download a 2.6.24-19-generic kernel+modules package.  Install
under Ubuntu with
$ sudo linux*.deb
After reboot under the new kernel & use the modem driver package.
