It appears to be running, and I believe I have followed the
instructions given here faithfully. I opened a terminal and entered:

sonyadora@localhost:~$ sudo slmodemd -c USA --alsa hw:0,6

The output:

SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.11 Aug  3 2008 21:41:20

symbolic link `/dev/ttySL0' -> `/dev/pts/1' created.

modem `hw:0,6' created.
TTY is `/dev/pts/1'
Use `/dev/ttySL0' as modem device,
Ctrl+C for termination.

So far so good. So I open a separate terminal window, without closing
the previous one, and type:

sudo wvdial

The output, as seen in my last message is this:

--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
-->
Cannot get information for serial port.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Any ideas?
