Marv,
i tried "$ sudo /etc/init.d/slmodemd restart" and i got this message:
sudo: /etc/init.d/slmodemd: command not found
also tried what jayjwa said and i got that there is no pppd process! So what to do know plz?

After stopping wvdial with Ctrl-C, try:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/slmodemd restart

Someone sent the URLs to the KERNELS LIST are this problem.
