Hi ,
Have you tried enabling 'Stupid Mode=1' in your Wvdial.conf file?

Marvin,

would you have some ideas on why it is still not connecting?

Looks like the ppp prompt is causing problems.

--> Hmm... a prompt. Sending "ppp".
ppp
'ppp' is not a valid command.
Valid commands are:
   quit Hang up and disconnect
help List valid commands

Cheers,

Leave whatever has been written to (both pap and chap-secrets).
THis was done by the server.

Note that when you travel and use a different @worldnet\.att\.net
, this problem may/may_not recur at a different server site dial-in
number.

Marvin,

Thank you for the reply.

The "Warning: Could not modify /etc/ppp/pap-secrets: Permission denied"
has
gone away.

(I notice that the line added to the pap-secrets files is different from
yours
my line only reads (both pap and chap-secrets)
"login01" * "password"
login 01 * password

as opposed to: MyLoginName\@worldnet\.att\.net * MyPassword
(do I need the extra stuff)

However, same results. Modem dials, hangs up and dials again.
