Hi Lin,
Try putting the following in the file, and remember to change the phone,
and username. (will prompt for pass when you dial)
Then, dial with 'sudo wvdial'

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? NO
Did you configure it properly with
setserial? ?????
Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wiki/?WvDial
If you still have problems, send mail to <wvdial-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx>.
[root@localhost agrsm-20080721]# cat

Hi Lin,
You'll need to manually edit your /etc/wvdial.conf
file to use /dev/ttyAGS3 as your modem port.
Best, Bjorn.

Hello Bjorn,
wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf did not find modem.
I then tried ln -s /dev/ttymodem /dev/ttyASG3
Right now I have Mepis using a usb borrowed external
modem at home and use the Mandrake where I can find a wifi site.
Very inconvenient, but it works.
If the wvdialconf did work, I wouldn't have any idea
how to do sysconfig, or I remember vaguely setting up commands
somewhere at boot time.
Perhaps I should just stop here.
Thank you very much for your help

Hi Lin,
No, the module won't stay after reboot. You will
need
to load it manually, or edit your sysconfig files
to
do this.
Have you tried using the modem? (wvdial etc.)
Bjorn.

Hi, Do you have a custom kernel compiled with a
different
version string than the default?
This error is typical of such, or that the
running
kernel doesn't match what's in /usr/src/linux.
Alternatively, you could try with 'modprobe
agrmodem
--force' but be warned that this can be
dangerous
(i.e. system hang or kernel panic) and should
only
be
done if you're absolutely sure that what's
running
matches /usr/src/linux/ source.

Hello Bjorn,
The 'make oldconfig' and 'make modules' went
without errors at end - I could see none as they went along.
Did
sudo cp sound/pci/hda/snd_hda_intel.ko
>> /lib/modules/`uname
-r`/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko/
Restarted - results attached in Bjorn-continue
Stuck on modprobe as shown in attachment.

Hi Lin,
just a simple typo, that's all- the command is
'make oldconfig', not
'make oldconfig/' You have a trailing slash
that
shouldn't be there :)

Hello Bjorn,
Perhaps this needs new subject?
Omitted tests on Mepis
I have changed to Mandriva Spring 2008 from
Mepis, ran scanModem
(attached), followed your procedure, and have
problem as shown in
attached "bjorn procedure".
Have googled for meaning of the error in make
oldconfig
I Believe I am using correct kernel-source.
Attachment shows where hda_codec.c was
modified.
