Marvin,

This now works.
I have reloaded kernel 2.6.24-19-generic as advised, and used the
package you sent me.
I ran the "setup" script (I think there is an error in the script
because it complained about
"/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko" although the "snd-hda-intel.ko" file was already copied to "/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda" succesfully).

So I went ahead and loaded the modules:

        sudo modprobe agrmodem
        sudo modprobe agrserial

The above commands ran without any errors and /dev/ttyAGS3 was created

I then created the symbolinc links needed:
                sudo ln -s /dev/ttyAGS3 /dev/ttySAGR
                sudo ln -s /dev/ttyAGS3 /dev/modem

Finally, I ran: "sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf" which detected the
modem.

The file "agrsm_howto.txt" included in the package you sent me was very
useful.

I tested everything with GnomePPP and I could connect to my ISP without
any problem.
I then edited /etc/modules in order to load agrmodem and agrserial
modules at boot time.
I also created a file /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules that creates the
symbolic links automatically (see "agrsm_howto.txt"),

Questions and minor issues:
1) If I upgrade the kernel all this will be lost. Correct?
2) Will there be a 2.6.24-20 version of the driver?
3) Minor issue with DNS (cannot resolve names). I am currently
investigating. Any hints would be welcome.
4) No SOUND from the modem when it dials. Any ideas how to fix this?
5) The Volume control has changed (different tracks). This is due to the
fact that we are using a patched "snd-hda-intel.ko". Correct?

MANY THANKS TO EVERYBODY.

Sincerely.

George K.
