Please try to do the following Open a terminal and type 1) sudo ifconfig eth0 down 2) sudo wvdial Open up another terminal/tab and type $ sudo tail -f /var/log/messages paste output and send it to list. Then use CTRL+C combination to quit the tail -f /var/log/messages command. It might be getting in the way. While trying to browse, NetworkManager might try to assign DNS of its own? I do not know how it works in Ubuntu :( Send the output from the commands on top to list.
