Sally, Do not worry about the file rename, you may use cp command # cp /usr/bin/slmodemd /usr/sbin/slmodemd.old # cp slmodemd /usr/bin and retry the command again. # slmodemd --version should return root@slax:~/SLMODEMD.gcc4.2# ./slmodemd --version SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.11 Feb 25 2008 18:25:57 But before you copy(cp) the new slmodemd and make a backup copy to slmodemd.old, why don't you try from the folder that you extracted # ./slmodemd -c USA --alsa hw:0,6 and that should work. IF it does, then follow through with the above commands. Hope that it works for you this time, but if it does not please report back and post the error messages.
