Hi all,

I noticed I had forgotten to cc to discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx so I just
forwarded some previous messages for reference.

I tried again but it does look like ATZ is a NO NO.
I remember having tried in vain to put it on my previous config
(Customized Fedora 2 with 2.6.16 kernel)

So I had to give up the ATZ but still the whole thing does not work.
It does not work with any combination I tried, that is
- slamr or snd_via82xx_modem
- slmodemd compiled with or without alsa support
- with or without the extra scripts and rules provided with
sl-modem-daemon_2.9.10+2.9.9d+e-pre2-5ubuntu4_i386.deb
- with or without ungrab_winmodem

Moreover the phone line is left in a weird state, and I have to unplug
it from the computer, picking the phone does not help.

It did not work any better dialing to a standard provider that does
not use callback.

Usually ATX3 acted like a charm to be able to connect through the non
continuous dial tone we have here in Italy, but it seems that it is
not the case anymore with Ubuntu 7.10.

It has been a week now that I could not connect using Linux.

Below is one wvdial.conf that worked on my previous system (2.2.16)
Of course I tried many alternatives, including (but not limited to)
the commented out Init2, the non stupid mode and the frequently
recommended "Carrier Check = no"

BTW I guess "no, off, yes and on" are all accepted boolean values, but
I see no confirmation in the doc.
Also it is not clear if both the capitalized name of the country and
the code given by slmodemd --list are valid.

So if anyone has a clue.........................
There are such a lot of parameters !
There *must* be someone who had the same problem here in Italy. My
providers are big providers here, and my freshly installed Ubuntu 7.10
is standard, not a customized config like I had before, when everybody
told me I could not go on getting around with that ;-)
My modem also is just one of the most common Smartlink

Cheers,

AO
