I would ask you first if the modem works/connects?
$ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
will look for the modem. If it does not work uninstall the linuxant drivers. There obviously has to be something wrong. If you have windows, you can try to identify the driver by using the diagnostics found in scanModem, I am going to reattach your scanModem back to list in hopes that others can help fix this bad situation
