hw:0 is always the audio card, which can support the wvdialconf text,
but is incompetent for subsequent COMM. The support (if any) will be
through the slam.ko driver. to which I added the recognition codes for
1543:3052. Start with the slmodem-2.9.11-20080417.tar.gz from
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/.  After the
compilation and install the modem will hopefully be activated by
# ./slmodemd -c  INDIA  /dev/slamr0

A first step success would be port creation
   /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N
Please report back.

the support by slmodemd is Not Certain. Rather yours is an important
test case to ascertain whether these 1543:3052 modems can be supported
under Linux at all.

Note that upon reboot /dev/slamr0 will be gone. Just rerun the
# make install
to again create the /dev/slamr0 device
