None of the 3Com/USR  Winmodems have even been supported under Linux.Only modems with these Controller chipsets12b9:0062	US Robotics erk41926a-0.6 usr 56k	serial driver supported12b9:1008	US Robotics 3cp803598	                      serial driver supporteduse Linux serial drivers
You can use the search tool at www.usr.com , to search for "Linux".Unfortunately Model numbers by themselves are not informative.There must be an explicit statement of Linux support.Moreover there are some older chipsets from Ambient, Cirrus and Broadcom,which had Linux support under 2.4..n kernels, but are not supportedunder current 2.6.n kernels
