Tomasz, Adding some items to Antonio's guidance below. 1) [ 34.848000] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1f.6 to 64 ------------ is OK. It means in the end, the kernel does enable the modem card 2) Among the modem drivers loaded, only the snd-intel8x0m is needed, so with $ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-modem to remove the # from the lines: # blacklist snd-atiixp-modem # blacklist snd-via82xx-modem Then they will not load and this will save some resources, though they should be harmless in any case. They are for other modem hardware. 3) The slmodemd set symbolic link is /dev/ttySL0 -> /dev/pts/0 shows the scripts from the sl-modem-daemon package are working. But you need to set the Country properly. Change SLMODEMD_DEVICE=auto SLMODEMD_COUNTRY=USA to SLMODEMD_DEVICE=auto SLMODEMD_COUNTRY=NEW_ZEALAND with $ sudo gedit /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon Then the boot up action will then be: $ sudo slmodemd -c NEW_ZEALAND --alsa modem:1 while dynamically creating the /dev/ttySL0 -> /dev/pts/0 4) With the SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz Unpack under Linux with: $ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz move in $ cd SLMODEMD.gcc4.1 Look around $ ls The slmodemd is more recent than than installed by the sl-modem-daemon package. So $ sudo cp slmodemd /usr/sbin/slmodemd $ sudo chmod +x /usr/sbin/slmodemd Check the version: $ slmodemd --version SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.11 Jan 29 2008 08:33:21 --- yours should output the: version 2.9.11 Jan 29 2008 08:33:21 is just my compile date (now) 5) Then simplest to reboot. Afterwards $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf should fine the modem. If so, use $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf to put in your personal data and add the needed line Carrier Check = no Read the wvdial.txt for sample info. Then try a dialout with: $ sudo wvdial MarvS scanModem maintainer With theMODEMD.gcc4.
