Hello, searching over the internet, I found an older driver (you can find it in attachment) that *seems* to work with my Netodragon softmodem (at least, this is what I read). Could be of any use to give it a try?
If the answer is yes, should I remove the driver now installed or can I keep the two driver installed side by side? If I must uninstall the driver now present on my machine, what procedure should I follow?
Thank you, bye. Emanuele Emanuele Pagone ha scritto:
Thank you for your answer, Marvin. The provider is called 'Infinito' (as I reported in my first email) and I tried also with 'Libero' (another one). I'm interested in using a local POP connection: in Italy all regional area code starts with a '0' and I'm not passing through a switchboard to make a call. Please know that under Ms Windows both them ('Infinito' and 'Libero') works without problems (and without the pause ','). I remind you that I can hear perfectly the server answer (and seems to me that is the modem that can't 'catch' that answer). For what concerns the 'Stupid mode', I've forgotten to report that I even commented that line for EVERY attempt that I made (with ';' instead of '#') and nothing changed. Thank you for the time and interest in my problem, I'm very sad because I feel just a step backward the solution (and I hope not to be wrong :) ). Bye. I tried two other solutions to my problem, but they were useless. I'll report them here because they might be of any use for you: 1. I have also an ethernet card in my computer so to avoid incompatibility problems with the dial-up modem, I disconnected the RJ-45 cable and I gave this command in the console: $ sudo ifconfig eth0 down At this point I verified that eth0 was down typing: $ ifconfig It was correctly down, but this changed nothing. 2. I tried these other Init string commands : +MS=33, +MS=56, +MS=90, +MS=K56, S10=100 (in place of S0=0) and ATM1L1 (in place of ATQ0). Sometimes I get "Bad init string" and sometimes I have the usual problem (yet described) starting with "Timed out while dialing. Trying again." I tried also to change the Baud value overwriting the standard value with this: "Baud = 115200". Nothing changed :( . Sorry, but I don't understand your silence: am I lacking some requests? Is my modem not supported (if so, can you say it, please?)? What should I do? Sorry again for my insistence, but I'm quite confused... Regards. Emanuele Emanuele Pagone ha scritto:Thank you Jacques! As I said in my first message, I'm very happy to send you my ModemData.txt file. I'll paste it after my signature. If can be useful, I'll say you my procedure to install the modem drivers:1. With Synaptic package manager (Ubuntu 7.10), I've installed the ''sl-modem-daemon'' package. 2. I edited /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon to have SLMODEMD_COUNTRY=ITALY and SLMODEMD_DEVICE=slamr0 3. Console commands: $wget http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr-`uname -r`.tar.gz $tar -xzvf slamr-`uname -r`.tar.gz $sudo mkdir /lib/modules/`uname -r`/extra $sudo cp slamr-`uname -r`/*.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/extra/ $sudo depmod -a $sudo /etc/init.d/sl-modem-daemon restart 4.
