Rob Instead of using ALSA version 1.0.14 use the 1.0.15rc3 driver and lib packages. WIth them the command is effective: ./configure --with-kernel=$/lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/build --with-build=/lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/build To compile successfully with 1.0.14 sources, it was necessary for me to do numerous replacements of version.h by utsrelease.h FYI as of kernel version 2.6.18, the kernel_version information was moved from version.h to utsrelease.h, requiring the subsitutions in the configure script and elsewhere. But I am not confident that all the replacements I thus done were functionally valid. So best use the 1.0.15rc3 resources, wherein the ALSA crew has knowledgeable done the changes.
