Re: support via mc97+agere sv92pp softmodem under Linux?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi Marvin, Antonio,

Thanks a lot! Forget to mention about it, Actually our modem is not SV92PP which is PCI 2.3 compliant device. It is a SV92A3 modem which is HDA & AC-97 compliant device. according to the agere_product_line_card.pdf(page 14)..
and CSP1040 line codec only has 20 pins.

Modem - Soft SV92A3 / SV92A35
Digital interface to HDA &
AC-97 buses in notebook
computers.
HDA & AC-97 compliant device. It
provides a low-cost MDC 1.5 form
factor soft modem solution when
used with the CSP1040 line codec.

Modem - Soft SV92PP
Digital interface to PCI bus
for desktop computers.
PCI 2.3 compliant device. It
provides a low-cost PCI compliant
soft modem when used with the
CSP1040 line codec.

I tried SLModemd.gcc3.tar.gz. It still doesn't work.

Please see the log:

Tao,

Use the SLMODEMD.gcc3.tar.gz
it includes the SLMODEMD.gcc3.4.tar.gz  case

The snd-via82xx- modem driver is active on your System.
But it mostly provides contact with the modem hardware.
It is the complementary slmodemd, which has the brains for handling COMM

What is shown by:

$ lspci -s  00:11.6  -nv
It would be good to have the Subsystem info, if displayed

 An ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) modem driver:
 provides Low Level support enabling contact with the modem hardware.
 For all BUT Conexant chip soft modems (using hsfmodem software)
 complementary High Level support is through a Smartlink utility: slmodemd

 Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
 the package SLMODEMD.gcc3.4.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack
under Linux with:
   $ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc3.4.tar.gz
 and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with
command:
    slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa modem:1
 reporting dynamic creation of ports:
  /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N   , with N some number
 Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.

Hi,

My soft modem configuration under linux OS:

   Class 0780: 1106:3068 Communication controller: VIA Technologies,
Inc. Intel 537 [AC97 Modem]
      Primary PCI_id  1106:3068
    Subsystem PCI_id  none

    Softmodem codec or Vendor from diagnostics: AGR02, an AgereSystems
type. (CSP1040 AGR A3)

I already tried slmodem-2.9.11, agrsm-alpha and alsa via82xx driver,
NOTHING works.

 Lacking a dsp (digital signal processing) chip, the modem is a software
 intensive or "softmodem" type. Its primary controller manages the traffic
 with the CPU. But the software needed is specified in the Subsystem.

 Completed candidate modem analyses.

 A UDEV device file system is not active.

 The kernel was compiled with gcc version 3.4.0 and a compiler is not
installed

 linux-headers-2.6.16 resources needed for compiling are not manifestly
ready!

 If compiling is necessary packages must be installed, providing:
    gcc-3.4  kernel-source-2.6.16

If a driver compilation files with message including some lack of some
FileName.h (stdio.h for example.
Some additional kernel-header files need installation to /usr/include.
For Debian/Ubuntu related distributions, run the following command to
display the needed package list:
$ sudo apt-get -s install linux-kernel-devel
While some of the files may be on the install CD, others may have to be
found through http://packages.ubuntu.com

For Ubunut feisty, additional packages required were:
 build-essential curl debhelper dpkg-dev g++ g++-4.1 gettext git-core gitk
 html2text intltool-debian kernel-package kernel-wedge libc6-dev
 libcurl3-gnutls libdigest-sha1-perl liberror-perl libstdc++6-4.1-dev
 linux-libc-dev po-debconf rcs tcl8.4 tk8.4

Checking pppd properties:
    -rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       184412 Jan 24  2003 /usr/sbin/pppd

In case of an "error 17" "serial loopback" problem, see:
    http://phep2.technion.ac.il/linmodems/archive-sixth/msg02637.html

To enable dialout without Root permission do:
    $ su - root (not for Ubuntu)
         chmod a+x /usr/sbin/pppd
or under Ubuntu related Linuxes
     chmod a+x /usr/sbin/pppd

Checking settings of:    /etc/ppp/options
lock

In case of a message like:
   Warning: Could not modify /etc/ppp/pap-secrets: Permission denied
see http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-sixth/msg04656.html

Read Modem/YourSystem.txt concerning other COMM channels: eth0
Which can interfere with Browser naviagation.

 Don't worry about the following, it is for the experts
 should trouble shooting be necessary.
