8086:27d8 is a High Definition Audio card, possibly hosting a soft
modem.

Blacklisted modem driver lines in /etc/modprobe* files are:

/etc/modprobe.conf:blacklist snd-intel8x0m
/etc/modprobe.d/slmodem:blacklist snd-intel8x0m

 The snd-hda-intel is not supported by this kernel.

Basically, when I try to start slmodemd (via the init script),
nothing happens (except I get a bad symlink in my /dev directory -
modem -> /dev/ttySL0

You have probably seen this configuration dozens of times before,
but I feel pretty stumped.

Thank you in advance for your help.
