Yes, 8 gets an outside line. I removed the commas and it still exhibited the same behavior (i.e. I can dial my cell phone from the modem and the phone rings but I can't connect to my ISP). In Windows I use the default configurations to dial-up to my ISP so I don't think my ISP uses any special configurations. Rick On 6/27/07, Jacques Goldberg <Jacques.Goldberg@xxxxxxx> wrote:
Before anything else, remove the commas in ATDT8,1,XXXXXXX (in the Phone number line in your file wvdial.conf) I am **NOT** sure that this is the reason. My brain works as follows. I guess that you need 8 to get hold of an external line. It is plausible, **NOT** necessarily true, that the software interprets the first comma as "wait for the new tone from the external line". This would then be what you wait for, and the modem driver cannot detect it. Carrier Check = no applies to the first tone heard when you raise the phone. And no, you do not need ungrab nor slamr.
