Gaincarlo,

The setup sequence under Ubuntu
$ sudo modprobe martian_dev
Get martian_modem help with:
$ martian_modem  --help
$ martian_modem --info countries
which informs for you to use
$ martian_modem  --country=it

The modem should now be active. Test with:
$ sudo wvdialconf  /etc/wvdial.conf
which should find the modem. Edit in personal information with:
$ sudo gedit  /etc/wvdial.conf
replacing the <xxxx> with your personal information
and adding a line:
 Carrier Check  =  no

Then try a dialout with:
$ sudo wvdial.
