Hello Firas, Thanks for the pointers on getting the gcc build stuff loaded. I just popped the Ubuntu CD into the CD drive and the package manager applet came up on it's own. I found the appropriate package and was able to install with no problems. I downloaded the slmodemd-2.9.11-20070505 package and inflated it and was able to run all the processes outlined in the README file, however I believe I'm still having problems. While in directory ~slmodemd-2.9.11-20070505/scripts/debian I do: sudo ./slmodemd start and get this error message: Starting Smartlink Modem driver for slamr[: 118: ==: unexpected operator failed exit: 118 illegal number: -1 I did some checking and I see device file /dev/slamr0 owner by root group dialout major number 242 minor number 0 with permissions 660 Just for the heck of it I rebooted and the restricted driver manager came up and sees the loaded drivers.
