Dear Antonio, thank you very much. It works! The # ifconfig eth0 down seems to be necessary Thank you again, Aldo -----Messaggio originale----- Da: Antonio Olivares [mailto:olivares14031@xxxxxxxxx] Inviato: lunedi 14 maggio 2007 14.39 A: prof. Could you help me again (I am a beginner)? I did the following: First I unpacked ungrab (in the /tmp directory) and made make and make install with no error messages; modprobe ungrab-winmodem generated in dmesg the two lines device 1057:3052 is grabbed by driver serial: try to release ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:01:07.0 disabled Nevertheless, I went on with unpacking slmodem, made make and among other lines I got modem_pack.c: In function 'modem_async_get_bits': modem_pack.c:100: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2 of 'm->get_chars' differ in signedness modem_pack.c: In function 'modem_async_put_bits': modem_pack.c:148: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2 of 'm->put_chars' differ in signedness gcc -Wall -g -O -I. -DCONFIG_DEBUG_MODEM -o modem_ec.o -c modem_ec.c modem_ec.c: In function 'tx_info': modem_ec.c:723: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2 of 'l->modem->get_chars' differ in signedness modem_ec.c: In function 'push_rest_data': modem_ec.c:811: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2 of 'l->modem->put_chars' differ in signedness modem_ec.c: In function 'rx_info': modem_ec.c:860: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 2 of 'l->modem->put_chars' differ in signedness .... WARNING: modpost: GPL-incompatible module slusb.ko uses future GPL-only symbol 'usb_deregister' WARNING: modpost: GPL-incompatible module slusb.ko uses future GPL-only symbol 'usb_register_driver' then I made make install and among other lines I got WARNING: modpost: GPL-incompatible module slusb.ko uses future GPL-only symbol 'usb_deregister' WARNING: modpost: GPL-incompatible module slusb.ko uses future GPL-only symbol 'usb_register_driver' then I made modprobe slamr and found in dmesg the lines PPP generic driver version 2.4.2 NET: Registered protocol family 24 slamr: module license 'Smart Link Ltd.' taints kernel. slamr: SmartLink AMRMO modem. slamr: probe 1057:3052 SL1900 card... ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:07.0[A] -> Link [APC4] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 21 slamr: slamr0 is SL1900 card. then from /usr/sbin I launched slmodemd --country=USA /dev/slamr0, which generated the message SmartLink Soft Modem: version 2.9.11 May 13 2007 18:41:58 error: cannot create symbolink link `/dev/ttySL0' -> `/dev/pts/2': File exists modem `slamr0' created. TTY is `/dev/pts/2' Use `/dev/pts/2' as modem device, Ctrl+C for termination. Here. Do not type Ctrl+C, instead open another terminal and fire up KPPP or wvdial and try to connect to the internet. The hard job is done. One little step and you will be there. after make KERNEL_VER=/lib/modu...., make and make install for slmodem-2.9.11-20070430.tar.gz and make make install for ungrab-winmodem # modprobe ungrab-winmodem # modprobe slamr # slmodemd --country=ITALY /dev/slamr0 and you see Use `/dev/pts/2' as modem device, Ctrl+C for termination. Open another terminal and fire up wvdial, and it will find your modem, or KPPP and look for /dev/ttySL0 and put in as your device. Configure your connection and you should connect successfully. You might have to run # ifconfig eth0 down if your connection does not work as well as it should. Then I typed Ctrl+C. I launched again modprobe ungrab-winmodem, but nothing changed. I looked in /dev, and I saw that /ttySL0, /slamr0 and /pts exixt, with /pts/0 and /pts/1, but /pts/2 does not exist. NOTE: I use Knoppix 5.1, live, from DVD. Is it perhaps a problem? No, not a problem at all. I can connect with slax-linux-live cd and everything works.
