APL under your openSUSE 10.2 (i586) - Kernel Linux version 2.6.18.2-34-default PCI slot PCI ID SubsystemID Name ---------- --------- --------- -------------- 00:1b.0 8086:2668 1734:107c Audio device: Intel Corpora tion cat /proc/asound/pcm 00-01: ALC880 Analog : ALC880 Analog : capture 2 00-00: ALC880 Analog : ALC880 Analog : playback 1 : capture 2 should contain an added line like: 00-06: Modem something. Its absence shows that the card is not being properly setup. I suspect that the issue is that the ALSA code does not yet support this new ALC880 Analog card type yet. We have a few other ALC880 problem cases. The motorola chip is on the 1734:107c Subsystem, giving the diagnostic in /proc/asound/card0/codec#0: Codec: Generic 1057 ID 3055 Address: 0 Vendor Id: 0x10573055 Subsystem Id: 0x10573055 Revision Id: 0x100700 If there are no other problems, the # slmodemd -c GREECE --alsa hw:0,6 (I'm guessing the 6) should activate your modem, after slmodemd have been copied from the SLMODEMD.gcc4.1 folder to /usr/sbin/slmodemd While you are working this through, do a clean bootup each time (not from HIBERATION or SLEEP mode). Before proceeding with tests make sure there is content in /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 You may just have to wait until there is better ALC880 support included in the snd-hda-intel driver MarvS On 4/6/07, Anastasios Panagiotis Livogiannis <el04044@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Mr Stodolsky Excuse me for disturbing you yet another time,but I tried to actually view the files located in the /proc/asound folders and they contained loads of viewable (as text) information.Probably there was a problem of the function of the 2 commands (cp and tar) but I don't actually know what happend and in the archives all seemed empty.Anyway,I wrote down all the information included in those files and reproduced them (keeping the folder structure) and I'm sending them to you right know.I hope these information to be enough to make things clearer and I would much appreciate your help on this subject Thanks in advance Tasos Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> said: > Ansatasios > w > ALSAversion 1.0.13 > show that ALSA is installed on your System ahnd the Motorola chip is > supported by slmodemd (as described in the Smartlink.txt), with a > startup line like: > # slmodemd -c GREECE --alsa hw:0,N > Where the N is usually determined by the /proc/asound/ diagnostics. > > The lack of /proc/asound content in you case indicated that the > ?ALC880? is not yet supporter in the ALSAversion 1.0.13 release. > Try to get some more info on your Audio card subsystems using > Microsoft diagnostics > > MarvS > > > On 4/6/07, Anastasios Panagiotis Livogiannis <el04044@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > Hi,I have made the process you said before and archived /proc/asound in > > ADL.tgz file which I'm sending it to you,but it's the same as before: > > Everything seems in place,but they are all empty.I'm sending it to you if > > there is any good information that I cannot detect,and probably I must check > > my ALSA configuration,any advices there???(as you realized yourself,i am not > > familiar with kernel modules etc,so I don't know where to find help for that > > stuff). > > Thank you > > Tasos > > Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> said: > > > > > APL, > > > > > > The file structure was there but, all the files were empty. > > > Check whether there is content within the /proc/asound files. > > > These should be text files readable with a text browse. > > > If content is absent, there is a PROBLEM with your ALSA support > > > > > > It there is content, try > > > $ su - root > > > # cp -a /proc/asound APL2 > > > Check the files in APL2/ to make sure they have content. > > > SHould be the same as in /proc/asound > > > Then > > > # tar cvfz APL2.tgz APL2/ > > > > > > MarvS > > > > > > On 4/6/07, Anastasios Panagiotis Livogiannis <el04044@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > > If I have understood this well,you want this file,which has all the > > information > > > > that exist in my /proc/asound folder and it was generated by the scanModem > > > > script.So I'm sending it to you,but I will also try to run the commands you > > > > adviced me and I will send you that file too,if needed.In ModemData.txt there > > > > wan no other output,I' m afraid though. > > > > Thank you for your attention, > > > > Tasos > > > > > > > > Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> said: > > > > > > > > > APL > > > > > > > > > > A Motorola modem on a HDA card should be serviceable, > > > > > and there is usually more output to ModemData.txt for modems of this type. > > > > > > > > > > Please: > > > > > $ cp -a /poc/asound APL > > > > > $ tar cfz APL.tgz APL/ > > > > > and send me the APL.tgz > > > > > > > > > > MarvS > > > > > scanModem maintainer > > > > > > > > > > On 4/5/07, Anastasios Panagiotis Livogiannis <el04044@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi,I have openSUSE 10.2 distro and a Fujitsu Siemens 1437 laptop.
