RE:  bash: SLMODEMD: command not found
You can either
$ sudo ./slmodemd -c UK --alsa hw:0,6

or copy slmodemd  to  /usr/sbin/slmodemd
putting it on the command PATH.  Then there should be a success with:
$ sudo slmodemd -c UK --alsa hw:0,6
