Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop modem

I sure hope you folks can help out here, I'm still on dial-up and my new Ubuntu Edgy install won't be worth much if I can't get this working.

I tried wvdial.conf and it showed no modem installed.

 DO use the following line as the email Subject Line, to alert cogent experts:
      scanModem, Ubuntu 6.06 kernel 2.6.15-23-386
 Occassionally reponses are blocked by an Internet Providers mail filters.
 So do in a day also check the Archived responses at DISCUSS@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
