For Class 0780: 11c1:0440 Communication controller: Agere Systems
56k WinModem,
The older ltmodem+ltserial codes are no longer effective for
2.6.15-15-386 and later kernels. Get the successor from
http://phep2.technion.ac.il/linmodems/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/martian/
the  martian-full-20061203.tar.gz

Additionally you may have to install packages
linux-headers-2.6.15-15-386 and linux-headers-2.6.15-15 to support
compiling.

Below are some operation details, complemented by the package documentation.

Modems with Lucent/Agere DSP chipsets
--------------------------------------
	For Lucent/Agere/Xircom modems with DSP (digital signal processing) chipsets
http://phep2.technion.ac.il/linmodems/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/martian/
has the support packages and information for 2.6.n kernels. In Alexei
Chentsov's
new martian approach, the overall support is two component:
1) The driver loaded onto the running kernel, martian_drv, is Open Source;
2) The proprietary and closed source component from Agere Systems, ltmdobj.o,
is compiled into a martian_modem helper application. It must be left
running during a dialout session.
AMD x86x-64 processors are supported though only in 32 bit mode.
	Beware that the martian_drv mostly provides low level contact with the
hardware. The martian_modem provides higher level COMM functions and
MUST be running throughout a dialout session. The modem port is in the
dynamically created /dev/pts/N family, with symbolic link creatd by
the martian_modem
	/dev/ttySM0 -->/dev/pts/N
Usage of these ports requires that a line:
	Carrier Check =  no
be added to the configuration file /etc/wvdial.conf
See the file wvdial.txt for details on this usage.
For martian concept details see: http://martian.barrelsoutofbond.org

To automate martian_modem action upon martian_drv loading,
the following SINGLE line can be added to one of the files /etc/modprobe*
or to a new file /etc/modprobe.d/martian
install martian_drv  modprobe --ignore-install martian_drv ;
/usr/sbin/martian_modem

However, there is a report that (at least in some Systems), boot up processes
are slowed. This is associated with bootup testing of potentially
needed modules.
Thus you may choose not to use this automation.

Hello,
I'm working on Ubuntu 6.04 Dapper Drake, Kernel 2.6.15. And I can't
work with neither the ADSL since I've an USB modem, nor 56k PCI Lucent
modem since the system doesn't communicate with it. Then I tried to
install the driver for the analogue modem but It didn't work. I hope
that's enough for you to debug the problem.
Thank You Very Much for helping me
Best Regards
