First of all, immediately change your password if it indeed is unaparola because you have sent in your mail
> Phone = 7007000055
> Username = c.polisini@xxxxxxxxx
> Password = unaparola
So that anybody in the world can use your account and your money.
And next time, better remember to hide it!

Your modem works, the problem is not with the modem but between your ISP (inwind.it) and your operating system.

To try to help you I would:
1-to see your file /etc/ppp/options
2-to know if you have tried to download the SAME FILE several times and if the downloading then stops AT THE SAME PLACE.

Just login and do nothing else, as little as possible, before starting the download, and look at
"Dec 30 20:43:20 mrsource-laptop pppd[30261]: Serial link appears to be
disconnected.
Dec 30 20:43:20 mrsource-laptop pppd[30261]: Connect time 12.4 minutes.
Dec 30 20:43:20 mrsource-laptop pppd[30261]: Sent 116583 bytes,
received 2631465 bytes." in your /var/log/messages
The number of RECEIVED bytes (here 2631465) will be approximately the same if the hang occurs at the same place.

If you see nothing like in /etc/ppp/options,
asyncmap a0000
add such a line and retry.

Good luck - Jacques

I,m running ubuntu 6.10 and I load snd_intel8x0m and slamr modules as in
linux gentoo. Then I use slmodemd and wvdial in this way:
-/usr/sbin/slmodemd --country=ITALY --alsa modem:1
-wvdial.conf

Baud = 460800

The problem is that when I download files that is bigger than 800KB/1MB,
the

On gentoo, with same major verison of kernel I had no problem (now I
lost
gentoo installation :-( ), I have used same modules snd_intel8x0m and
slamr
and in winxp I have no problem. I have incleded below ModemData.txt outputted by your utility scanModem.
Help me!!
Thanks! Carlo.

It will enrich the Archive and help others! -------------------------------------------
 Lacking a dsp (digital signal processing) chip, the modem is a software
 intensive or "softmodem" type. Its primary controller manages the
traffic
with the CPU. But the software needed is specified in the Subsystem. -----------------------------------------
Support type needed or chipset: slmodemd

 An ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) modem driver:
 snd-intel8x0m
provides Low Level support enabling contact with the modem hardware. For all BUT Conexant chip soft modems (using hsfmodem software)
 complementary High Level support is through a Smartlink utility:
 slmodemd

 Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
 the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack
under
Linux with:
       $ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.tar.gz
and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with command:
       sudo slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa modem:1
 reporting dynamic creation of ports:
       /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N   , with N some number
 Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through
guidance.
 Already loaded into the kernel is snd-intel8x0m and audio drivers it
depends on,
