That is because a cell result of a (or in this case THE) currently running interpreted cell is to be pushed (which could happen in several other constellations as well and actually should result in circular reference error if iterations are not activated) and ScFormulaCell::MaybeInterpret() has assert(!rDocument.IsThreadedGroupCalcInProgress()); instead of letting the following Interpret() call decide what to do which it was designed for before all the group calc things were shoved before the if(bRunning) block so that doesn't work anymore and the assert() was introduced..
