Did you check if the existing mechanism Writer and Impress has would be suitable for Math as well? See sw/source/core/doc/DocumentSettingManager.cxx; there is also sd/source/ui/docshell/docshel4.cxx, see the SetAnchoredTextOverflowLegacy() call there.
