okay then why not

default via preffered path
default via backup path metric 100

I've done that with a metric of 0/1, and 1/2. The problem that I'm seeing is that the system will never try to use the second metric. It's as if the system will never go to a next higher metric if it does not receive an error while trying to use a lower metric.
