Making NIST NET work.

I have NIST NET installed on my Linux box but I'm not able to make NIST 
NET do the routing for me.
I have nistnet on 172.16.14.41 and I want to route packets from 
172.16.14.22 to 172.16.14.44 thru 172.16.14.41 (nistnet).

The route on 172.16.14.22 looks something like:

That is, effectively, I've added the routing between 172.16.14.22 &
172.16.14.44 to use 172.16.14.41 (nistnet) as the gateway. Using this
setup, I assume I'm doing the right thing. Now in xnistnet, I set pipes
for src 172.16.14.22 to dest 172.16.14.44 and vice versa. However, when I
ping 172.16.14.44 from 172.16.14.22, I don't get any response (and vice
versa). The ICMP packets do reach 172.16.14.41, by the way. 14.41 does not
seem to direct it to 14.44.

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong. Is it that I cannot use NIST NET 
for a single interface card on my box?
