I'm not sure. It might. You can also experiment with proxy-ARP tricks:
[internet] - [router] - [linux] - [10.0.0.0/24]
eth0 eth1
You need to instruct Linux to respond to ARPs in eth0 for anything in
10.0.0.0, and to respond to ARPs on eth1 for your router, and you are all
set.
This way, no configuration changes are needed either.

It might be, but I'm not aware of anybody doing this with Linux. The
proxyarp trick does work.
