snapshots in kvm

Hello,

We're currently looking to snapshots a bit closer.
I found this thread[1], which is similar what we're looking for.
In our case we want to backup VMs whilst running without interrupting
them.
We also want to flush the caches in guest and host so to have the best
chance of having a consistent snapshost.
Images are qcow2 format.

Question: What is the reason for enclosing the snapshot in vm_stop() &
vm_start() ?

where would it break if we remove it?

Conrad
