Yes, this is correct.

Either the reference examample from FAST 6.1 or the trial is fine.

I've used both Fedora 13 and Ubuntu, and as long as you either use the right version of GCC or you modify the code a little bit, then it works fine. (In Ubuntu you have to mess a little bit with the bridging scripts)
