Yes, it > really looks like Super Mario jumping around. And it's incredibly > annoying. I guess I don't do enough actual file management in dolphin (or konqueror) to have noticed, as I tend to use mc for that, myself, but now that you describe it, yes, I see it now. (FWIW, I'm still on rc1 due to an interesting complication in something else (openrc, here on gentoo) that I'm running a live git version of, that had my net blacked out for a few hours until I could figure out what was going on not only well enough to get back online -- that was a simple revert -- but to properly report a bug if it wasn't fixed yet. But rc1 has the same general behavior, now that you described it well enough for me to check.) Yes, I can see how it could be irritating after about the 10th time or so, for sure! (Heh, reminds me of TV ads, the reason I haven't watched TV in years except occasionally at someone's house as a guest. The ads might be entertaining the first couple times thru, and tolerable the first half dozen to dozen, but after that, they quickly become an insult to the intelligence! And apparently most people are easy to program by simply repeating the same ad often enough!) I believe I've figured out how to control it, tho! =:^) Kde settings, common appearance and behavior, application appearance, style. The default and most highly configurable widget style is oxygen. Based on past experience, if you switch to a different style, you'll probably lose this effect along with some others, tho I didn't actually check this particular thing as I just discovered it myself. Alternatively, on the fine tuning tab, there's a drop-down selector box that has had a number of choices that I really didn't see what they did. Well, I figured out one of the effects they control in 4.8, at least! If you set that to low display resolution and low cpu, the "sliding icons animation" should go away, reverting to the old snap-to-grid style. Based on a few minutes of experimentation, either high resolution or high cpu will enable some sliding. With high resolution and low cpu, it seems to slide big groups of icons at once, while with very high cpu, it slides individual icons, and with simply high cpu (as opposed to very high), it seems to slide smaller groups. Meanwhile, back on the applications tab again, there's a configure... button. It didn't appear that the animations checkbox (in normal mode, there's a whole tab full of individual animations to adjust in advanced mode) here affected this particular effect, but it's worth taking a look around that settings dialog to see what your options are. As I said earlier tho, you only get most of those options for the default Oxygen style. Others have fewer options. -- Duncan - List replies preferred. No HTML msgs.
