I recently had a problem with resolutions and monitors. There was two 
problems. Firstly my monitor was not being detected correctly because 
of a KVM and/or vga extension cable. Secondly, and more relevant to 
your case, I had a problem when the display subsection was not put 
straight after the Identifier line. So try moving your display 
subsection to the line after the identifier. It took me two very 
frustrating days to work this out!
