KMail

I am a linux newbie and having problems getting mail to be sent to a 
Distribution List.  The TO: has the name of the list and when it gets sent, 
the SMTP server bounces it back as name unknown and the rest of the TO: in 
the distribution list does not get the message.

What am I doing wrong?
